Acoustic Enterprises Inc. (AEI) began in 1988 — more than three decades ago — with a clear focus on innovation, quality, and problem-solving in the acoustical solutions industry.
In the late 1980s, AEI developed a pioneering, environmentally responsible approach to extending the life of existing acoustic materials — improving performance and aesthetics while reducing waste. This work laid the foundation for a culture of innovation that continues today.
Over the years, AEI developed and patented numerous fabrication methods and product concepts designed to meet the evolving demands of commercial, institutional, and technical environments. These innovations have supported applications ranging from acoustically sensitive technical spaces to highly designed interiors where sound performance and visual integration are equally critical.
In 2020, AEI was acquired by Sonus North America, marking a new chapter of growth and investment. The Sonus partnership brought expanded marketing reach, broader distribution, and deeper resources for product and service development — strengthening our ability to serve the architecture and design community with creativity, consistency, and care.
We're entering our next chapter with renewed focus — investing in scale, sustainability, and service. With momentum on our side and a clear path forward, we're positioned to grow with our partners, lead with intent, and continue delivering acoustic solutions that meet the needs of a changing world.
We came upon our name through two references. Let's start with the lesser know variation. Sona means “prosperous, fortunate, lucky." Combine that with us and you have Sonus! More people know Sonus is a Latin word that means “noise, sound” or “tone, character, style.” It is also the root word for sonic and sound.
We are in the business of orchestrating noise and sound — creating a better environment for people, be it healthcare waiting area, customer service center, or enjoying a meal with friends and family.
It is important we operate with our authentic personality and voice (tone), values (character). It is only if we do those things that we can consider ourselves successful!
Moving forward with intention and speed: I’ve been known my whole career as the master of GSD*. It is more important to begin solving for 80% rather than solving for 100%—it takes too long and costs too much with little to no value. Equally as important: solving the most important challenges first. Our community, employees, and the business itself demands action.
* Get Sh*# Done
Moving with intention and speed: Life has ups and downs. I believe in learning from the past while not dwelling on it. Moving forward allows us to experience all of the beauty and challenges God puts in front of us.
Start with customers: The longer I’ve been in marketing the more I am drawn to the concept of putting the customer first in every decision, company-wide. Marketing to me isn’t running Facebook ads and designing sales materials, it’s asking, “how can we be of service to our design and build community” — it’s everything from how we answer the phone, to how we best share our expertise, to how we as employees better support each other.
Being really great at what we do: My goal is to simply always be the best at what I do. I am better for those around me because of it.
Being really great at what we do: If I am great at what I do all the other values will be met.
